20W Solar LED Street Light & Lighting Column Packages – 3m to 6m

Our 20W Solar LED Street Light & Lighting Column Packages combine a solar lantern, galvanized steel lighting column and compatible outreach arm bracket, making it easier to specify and order the equipment together.

Designed for exterior areas where a mains electricity supply is unavailable or difficult to install, the package provides automatic night-time illumination with motion-activated full output.

At dusk, the lantern switches on at a 30% holding level. Movement detected by the PIR sensor increases the light to 100% output, returning to the holding level after approximately 20 seconds without further activity. At dawn, the light switches off and the battery recharges during daylight.

Choosing Your Lighting Column Height

The package is available with 3m, 4m, 5m or 6m above-ground column heights. The most suitable height depends on the site dimensions, required illumination and proposed column positions.

3m and 4m columns are commonly used for pathways, smaller amenity areas and compact car parks. 5m and 6m columns provide higher mounting positions for access routes and larger exterior spaces.

Height should be considered alongside spacing and the lantern's motion-detection coverage. Wydels can help assess the proposed layout rather than selecting a taller column simply because it is available.

Root-Mounted or Flange-Plate Installation

Root-Mounted Columns

Root-mounted columns have an extended lower section installed below ground within a suitable foundation. The stated column height is the above-ground height, not the overall length including the root.

Flange-Plate Columns

Flange-plate columns are bolted to a prepared foundation using the appropriate anchor arrangement. They provide a bolt-down alternative to direct-burial columns.

The foundation and fixings must be appropriate for the selected column, mounted equipment, ground conditions, wind exposure and installation location.

Automatic PIR Lighting Operation

The 20W lantern operates in motion-sensor mode only. It provides a reduced holding light when the area is quiet and increases to full brightness when movement is detected.

At Dusk – 30% Holding Light

As daylight fades, the lantern automatically switches on at approximately 30% output. It remains illuminated at this reduced level between motion detections rather than switching completely off.

Movement Detected – 100% Output

When the PIR sensor detects movement, the lantern increases to 100% output.

After Activity – Return to 30%

After approximately 20 seconds without further detected movement, the lantern returns to its 30% holding level. Further movement triggers full output again.

At Dawn – Light Off and Daytime Charging

At dawn, the lantern switches off and the solar charging process replenishes the battery during daylight, ready for the next night.

For the individual fitting, see our 20W Solar LED Street Lantern.

Lighting Layout & Solar Positioning

Plan the installation around both the area requiring illumination and the solar charging position. Include nearby trees, buildings and other potential obstructions when supplying a site plan for review.

For projects requiring a specified minimum lighting level or operating duration, provide the installation postcode and expected hours of use before ordering. The holding-light level and motion-activated level should both be considered when assessing the package for the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the 20W solar street lighting package?

Each package includes one 20W Solar LED Street Lantern, one galvanized steel lighting column and one 200mm outreach arm bracket.

The column is supplied in your selected height and mounting style. The solar panel, rechargeable battery and lighting controls are incorporated into the lantern.

What lighting-column heights are available?

The packages are available with 3m, 4m, 5m or 6m lighting columns. These measurements refer to the above-ground column height.

Root-mounted columns include an additional buried section. The 3m, 4m and 5m versions have an 800mm root, while the 6m version has a 1,000mm root.

What is the difference between root-mounted and flange-plate columns?

A root-mounted column has an extended lower section installed below ground within a suitable foundation.

A flange-plate column is bolted to a prepared foundation using a suitable anchor-bolt arrangement. The flange-plate versions within this package range have a 300mm × 300mm plate with 200mm × 200mm bolt centres.

Both mounting options include the same solar lantern and outreach arm bracket.

Are installation and groundworks included?

No. This is a supply-only package. Groundworks and installation must be arranged separately.

The foundation and any required anchor-bolt arrangement must be suitable for the selected column, mounted equipment, ground conditions, wind exposure and installation location.

Please contact Wydels to confirm any additional foundation or fixing components required for your chosen mounting method.

Does the package require a mains electricity supply?

No. The lantern operates off-grid using energy collected by its solar panel and stored in the rechargeable battery.

A mains connection to the lantern and power cabling between the lighting columns are not required. Suitable foundations and column installation work are still necessary.

How much light does the 20W solar lantern produce?

The lantern has a maximum LED power of 20W and provides approximately 2,200 lumens at full brightness, with an efficacy of approximately 110 lumens per watt.

These figures describe full-output operation when movement is detected. Between detections, the lantern operates at its reduced 30% holding-light level.

How does the PIR lighting programme work?

At dusk, the lantern automatically switches on at a 30% holding-light level.

When the PIR sensor detects movement, the lantern increases to 100% output. After approximately 20 seconds without further detected activity, it returns to the 30% holding level.

Further movement activates full output again. At dawn, the lantern switches off and the battery recharges during daylight.

Does the lantern switch completely off between motion detections?

No. During its night-time operating programme, the lantern returns to a 30% holding-light level rather than switching completely off between detections.

This provides background illumination when the area is quiet, with full output activated by movement.

Can the 20W lantern operate in a separate constant-light mode?

No. The 20W lantern operates in PIR motion-sensor mode only, combining a 30% holding level with motion-activated full output.

It does not have a separate selectable constant-light mode.

What is the PIR sensor's detection range?

The PIR sensor has a published detection range of approximately 3–8 metres and a detection angle of approximately 120°.

The proposed column height and position should be considered alongside the routes where movement needs to be detected.

What colour temperature is the supplied lantern?

The 20W Solar LED Street Lantern is supplied in 6000K daylight white.

What battery does the lantern use?

The lantern incorporates a 7.4V rechargeable lithium battery with a capacity of 5,400mAh, equivalent to 5.4Ah.

The solar panel recharges the battery during daylight for use during the night-time lighting programme.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The published charging time is approximately 6–7 hours of suitable sunlight.

Actual charging time depends on the available sunlight and site conditions. This should not be interpreted as a guaranteed full charge from 6–7 hours of daylight in all weather conditions.

What should I consider for winter operation?

Solar charging and night-time operating requirements should be considered together, particularly where a project requires a specific minimum light level or operating duration.

Position the solar panel with minimal shading from trees, buildings and other structures. Frequent PIR activations also increase the time spent at full output.

Provide Wydels with the installation postcode, proposed column positions and expected operating requirements so these can be considered during the project review.

Is a higher-output solar lighting package available?

Yes. Our 45W Solar LED Street Light & Lighting Column Packages provide a higher maximum lantern output and a different operating programme.

Explore the 45W solar lighting column packages.

The most suitable package depends on the required illumination, site layout and operating requirements rather than wattage alone.

Are lighting-column drawings available?

Yes. Height-specific dimensions and technical drawings are available on the individual lighting-column product pages.

View the 3m, 4m, 5m and 6m lighting-column for further information.

Review the drawing for your selected height and mounting arrangement before preparing the foundation.

What IP rating and operating temperature range does the lantern have?

The supplied solar lantern is rated IP65 and has a published operating temperature range of -20°C to +45°C.

What is the rated lifetime of the solar lantern?

The 20W Solar LED Street Lantern has a published rated lifetime of approximately 30,000 hours.

This is a rated-life figure, not the operating time available from a single battery charge.

What warranty is supplied?

The 20W Solar LED Street Lantern included in the package is supplied with a 3-year warranty.

Please contact Wydels for warranty information relating to the lighting column and bracket.

Can Wydels provide a lighting design for these solar column packages?

Yes. Wydels provides a free professional lighting-design service to help determine suitable package quantities, column heights, spacing and positions.

The layout can be considered alongside the lantern's holding-light and motion-activated operation, proposed site conditions and solar-panel exposure.
