45W Commercial Solar LED Street Lantern – 5,500 Lumens PIR IP65

The 45W Solar LED Street Lantern is a high-output, completely off-grid lighting solution designed for commercial car parks, pathways, access roads, industrial yards, remote locations and other areas where installing a conventional mains electricity supply would be difficult or expensive.

Producing 5,500 lumens at an efficiency of 122lm/W, the lantern combines a high-efficiency LED light source, integrated monocrystalline solar panel, rechargeable LiFePO4 battery, PIR motion detection and automatic dusk-to-dawn operation within one self-contained luminaire.

With no underground electrical cabling required between the lantern and the mains supply, installation can be significantly simplified compared with conventional street lighting, particularly on sites where trenching, reinstatement or extending the electrical infrastructure would otherwise be required.

The intelligent control system manages the available stored energy throughout the night using a choice of constant-output and PIR motion-activated operating modes. Under suitable charging and operating conditions, the system can provide approximately 3–5 nights of autonomy from a fully charged battery.

For a complete ready-to-install system, the lantern is also available as part of our 45W Solar LED Street Light & Lighting Column Packages, combining the solar lantern with a suitable lighting column and outreach arm bracket.

5,500 Lumens from 45W

The 45W Solar LED Street Lantern produces approximately 5,500 lumens, providing an LED efficacy of approximately 122 lumens per watt.

This provides a high level of useful light output from a relatively low-powered off-grid system and makes the lantern particularly suitable for commercial applications where greater illumination is required than would normally be provided by smaller decorative or domestic solar lights.

The asymmetric street-lighting distribution is designed to project useful light forward from the lighting column, making the lantern well suited to perimeter-mounted installations around car parks, access roads, pathways and commercial sites.

Integrated 25W Monocrystalline Solar Panel

The lantern incorporates an 18V / 25W monocrystalline solar panel directly into the luminaire.

During daylight hours, solar energy is collected by the panel and used to recharge the internal LiFePO4 battery. As daylight levels fall, the integrated control system automatically places the lantern into its selected night-time operating mode.

Because the solar panel, battery, LED light source and control system are incorporated into the luminaire, no mains electrical connection is required at the lantern.

For optimum performance, the solar panel should be positioned where it receives good exposure to daylight and is not significantly obstructed by trees, buildings or other sources of shading.

115Wh LiFePO4 Battery

The lantern incorporates a 9.6V / 12Ah LiFePO4 rechargeable battery, providing approximately 115Wh of stored energy.

LiFePO4 battery technology is particularly well suited to solar lighting because of its cycle life, stability and ability to repeatedly charge and discharge as part of the normal day/night operating cycle.

The battery is automatically recharged by the integrated solar panel during daylight hours ready to operate the lantern after dusk.

Intelligent Solar Lighting Modes

The lantern incorporates intelligent operating modes designed to balance useful illumination with the available stored solar energy.

Constant Light Mode

In constant-light mode, the lantern operates at approximately 50% output throughout the night.

This mode provides a consistent holding light level where continuous illumination is preferred.

PIR Motion Sensor Mode

In PIR mode, the lantern normally operates at approximately 30% output.

When movement is detected, the lantern increases to 100% output.

After approximately 20 seconds without further movement being detected, the lantern returns to its reduced 30% holding level.

This helps conserve battery capacity while still providing full illumination when pedestrians or vehicles enter the detection area.

Automatic Dusk-to-Dawn Operation

The integrated control system automatically manages the day and night operation of the lantern.

During daylight hours, the LED light source remains switched off while the solar panel charges the internal battery.

At dusk, the lantern automatically begins its selected night-time operating programme.

At dawn, the lantern switches off and returns to charging mode.

This allows the lighting system to operate automatically without requiring conventional time switches, external photocells or a mains electrical control circuit.

PIR Motion Detection

The integrated PIR sensor provides a detection range of approximately 3–8 metres with a detection angle of approximately 120°.

When PIR mode is selected, movement within the detection zone causes the lantern to increase from its reduced holding level to full output.

This makes the system particularly suitable for car parks, pathways, access roads and other areas where activity varies throughout the night.

Approximately 3–5 Nights Solar Autonomy

From a fully charged battery, the lantern is designed to provide approximately 3–5 nights of operation based on typical night-time use of around 10–12 hours.

Actual autonomy will depend on factors including:

  • Selected operating mode
  • Frequency of PIR activations
  • Available solar irradiation
  • Time of year
  • Geographical location
  • Solar-panel orientation
  • Shading from buildings or vegetation
  • Weather conditions
  • Battery condition and age
  • Ambient temperature

The quoted autonomy should therefore be considered a typical performance figure rather than a guaranteed number of nights under all operating conditions.

For commercial projects where winter performance is particularly important, Wydels can assess the proposed location, operating profile and solar availability as part of our lighting-design service.

No Mains Electricity Supply Required

One of the principal advantages of the 45W Solar LED Street Lantern is that the lighting installation can operate independently of the electrical grid.

This can eliminate the requirement for:

  • Underground mains cabling to the lantern
  • Electrical trenching between lighting columns
  • Cable ducts between columns
  • Connection to a local electrical distribution circuit
  • Electricity consumption during normal operation

This can make solar lighting particularly attractive for new car parks, remote sites, pathways, temporary facilities and existing areas where installing a conventional mains supply would involve significant civil engineering work.

Complete Solar Lighting Column Packages

For projects requiring a complete installation rather than the lantern on its own, the 45W Solar LED Street Lantern is also available as part of our complete 45W Solar LED Street Light & Lighting Column Packages.

The packages combine:

  • 1 × 45W Solar LED Street Lantern
  • 1 × Lighting Column
  • 1 × 200mm Outreach Arm Bracket

Packages are available with lighting columns from 3m to 6m and with either root-mounted or flange-plate column options, providing a straightforward complete solution for new solar lighting installations.

This is particularly useful for car parks, pathways, access roads and commercial sites where the complete lighting system is being installed from new.

Selecting a complete package removes the need to separately specify a compatible lantern, lighting column and mounting bracket, helping simplify specification and ordering.

Solar Performance & Installation

Correct positioning is particularly important with any solar lighting system.

For the best year-round performance, the integrated solar panel should receive good exposure to daylight throughout the day with minimal shading.

Trees, buildings, structures and other obstructions can substantially reduce the amount of solar energy available to recharge the battery, particularly during the UK winter when solar irradiation and daylight hours are reduced.

The position and orientation of the lantern should therefore take the solar panel into consideration as well as the direction in which the LED light needs to be projected.

Where a project requires specific lighting levels or reliable winter operation, Wydels can assess the proposed installation as part of our solar lighting-design service.
