20W Dual-Sided Solar LED Bollard with Independent PIR Controls

The 20W Solar LED Bollard combines a slimline design with two independently controlled lighting faces, providing an off-grid lighting option for walkways, residential areas, car parks and yards.

Each side incorporates a 10W LED light source producing up to 1,100 lumens, giving a combined maximum output of 2,200 lumens. Separate controls allow the lighting on each side to be configured around the requirements of the installation.

A dedicated PIR sensor and mode-selection button are provided on each face. Choose PIR motion-sensor mode, constant light or Off independently for each side, rather than operating both faces from a single shared setting.

The bollard is supplied in a black aluminium and glass construction, with an overall height of 800mm, IP65 protection and a 3-year warranty.

Two Lighting Faces with Independent Control

Unlike a bollard with one shared operating mode, this design allows each lighting face to be controlled separately.

Each side has its own button for selecting the operating mode and its own PIR sensor. Movement detected on one side activates the LEDs on the corresponding face when that side is set to PIR mode.

Both sides can use the same programme, or different modes can be selected. For example, one face can operate in PIR mode while the other provides constant reduced illumination. A side that is not required can be switched off.

This provides flexibility where the two faces illuminate areas with different patterns of use.

Selectable Operating Modes

Three operating modes are available on each side of the bollard.

PIR Mode – 15% Holding Light with Motion-Activated Full Output

In PIR mode, the selected side uses a 15% holding-light level between motion detections.

When its PIR sensor detects movement, that side increases to full brightness. After approximately 20 seconds without further movement, it returns to the reduced 15% level.

The two sensors operate independently, so activity on one face does not require the opposite face to increase its output.

Constant Light – 50% Brightness

Constant-light mode provides 50% brightness during dusk-to-dawn operation, without requiring movement to activate the selected side.

This option provides an alternative where continuous reduced illumination is preferred to motion-activated changes in brightness.

Off

The Off setting disables the selected lighting face. This allows the bollard to be configured for illumination from one side only when lighting on the opposite side is not required.

2,200 Lumens Combined Output

Each lighting face provides up to 1,100 lumens from 10W, giving a combined maximum output of 2,200 lumens from 20W. The published efficacy is 110 lumens per watt.

The 2,200-lumen figure applies when both faces operate at full brightness. Output is lower when a face is in its PIR holding state, constant-light mode or switched off.

The lighting layout should therefore account for the output available from each face and the operating mode selected, rather than treating the combined maximum output as continuous illumination in one direction.

Slimline Design for Pathways & Exterior Areas

The bollard measures 800mm high, 220mm wide and 90mm deep, giving it a narrow side profile.

Its two-sided arrangement provides illumination in opposite directions, while the slim body offers a different appearance from a conventional cylindrical bollard.

The published product information describes an illumination area of 6m on both sides. This is not a recommended spacing between bollards or a PIR detection-range specification. The required spacing should be established around the site's lighting requirements.

Solar Charging & Rechargeable Battery

The bollard uses solar charging and an internal 6.4V / 6Ah rechargeable lithium battery to operate without a mains electricity connection.

The published charging time is approximately 10 hours of sunlight. Charging performance should be considered alongside the proposed installation position and available solar exposure.

Select a position with good access to sunlight and consider potential shading from trees, buildings and other nearby structures when planning the installation.

Quoted Runtime in PIR Mode

The published working-time figure is four nights in PIR mode. The existing specification does not state the test conditions for this figure, so it should be treated as quoted performance rather than a guaranteed duration for every installation.

It should not be interpreted as four nights with both sides continuously operating at full brightness, or as a confirmed runtime for the separate constant-light mode.

For projects requiring a specific minimum lighting level or operating duration, provide Wydels with the installation location and intended operating modes before ordering.

Mounting Options

An internal mounting base is included for securing the bollard to a suitable prepared mounting surface.

A cast-in J-bolt arrangement provides an alternative for installation into a prepared concrete foundation. Please confirm the required bolt arrangement and any additional fixings before ordering.

The mounting surface, foundation and fixings should be suitable for the proposed installation. This is a supply-only product; installation and any required groundworks must be arranged separately.

Aluminium & Glass Construction

The bollard is manufactured from aluminium and glass and supplied in a black finish.

Its published specification includes IP65 ingress protection, an operating temperature range of -20°C to +45°C and a total weight of 5kg.

Typical Applications

The dual-sided solar bollard can be considered for walkways, passages, outdoor residential areas, suburban settings, car parks and yards.

The independent controls are particularly useful where the two sides of the installation require different operating modes. For a larger scheme, consider bollard positions, orientation and the required light levels together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the bollard provide 2,200 lumens on each side?

No. Each side provides up to 1,100 lumens from 10W. The combined maximum output is 2,200 lumens from 20W when both sides operate at full brightness.

Can the two sides be controlled separately?

Yes. Each side has its own mode-selection button and PIR sensor. You can select PIR mode, constant light or Off independently for each face.

Both sides can use the same setting, or different modes can be selected to suit the installation.

How does PIR mode work?

In PIR mode, the selected side provides a 15% holding-light level. Movement detected by its sensor increases that side to full brightness.

After approximately 20 seconds without further movement, it returns to the reduced holding level.

Does movement on one side activate both lighting faces?

No. The PIR sensors operate independently and activate the LEDs on the corresponding side when that face is set to PIR mode.

Is a constant-light mode available?

Yes. Constant-light mode provides 50% brightness during dusk-to-dawn operation without requiring motion detection. This mode can be selected independently on either side.

Can I use the bollard with only one side illuminated?

Yes. Set the unwanted face to Off and choose PIR or constant-light mode for the other side.

What colour temperature is the bollard?

The bollard is supplied in 6000K daylight white.

What battery is fitted and how long does charging take?

The bollard uses a 6.4V / 6Ah rechargeable lithium battery. Its published charging time is approximately 10 hours of sunlight.

This charging figure should not be interpreted as a guaranteed full charge from 10 hours of daylight in all weather conditions.

How long will the bollard operate?

The published working-time figure is four nights in PIR mode, but the specification does not state the test conditions.

This is not a guarantee of four nights at continuous full brightness or in constant-light mode. Discuss your required operating duration with Wydels when specifying the installation.

How is the bollard mounted?

An internal mounting base is included. The product also allows a cast-in J-bolt mounting arrangement for a suitable concrete foundation.

Please confirm the required foundation and any additional fixings before ordering. Installation and groundworks are not included.

How far apart should the bollards be installed?

Spacing should be selected according to the site's required light levels, the orientation of each bollard and the operating mode chosen on each face.

The published reference to 6m illumination on both sides is not a recommended spacing or a stated PIR detection range. Wydels can help assess a suitable layout.

What are the dimensions and weight?

The bollard measures 800mm high × 220mm wide × 90mm deep and weighs 5kg.

What IP rating and operating temperature range does it have?

The bollard is rated IP65 and has a published operating temperature range of -20°C to +45°C.

What lifetime and warranty are quoted?

The bollard has a published rated lifetime of 30,000 hours and is supplied with a 3-year warranty.

The rated lifetime is not the operating time available from a single battery charge.

Can Wydels provide a solar bollard lighting design?

Yes. Wydels provides a free professional lighting-design service to help determine suitable bollard quantities, positions and spacing.

Send us your site drawing, dimensions, installation postcode and intended operating requirements, including whether both lighting faces will be used.
